Hi I’m Chris Jones and I love Football, always have and always will. My first big football memory was being allowed to stay up late at the age of seven and watch Man Utd beat Benfica 4-1 on my Nan’s little old black and white TV. I only ever played for my local club Braunton FC as being loyal to your home team meant everything. Looking back of course I can’t help but think how far could I have gone? (probably no further) but that tribal mindset was honorable but stupid.
I gained my FA coaching badges and coached kids teams, women’s teams and men’s teams for over 20 years.
I coached at the FA School of Excellence and coached the Banstaple Town reserves who played in the Devon and Exeter League.
Barnstaple Town where in the Western League, and after a financially supportive Chairman left the club, the well paid players and manager left also. After another manager threw the towel in I became the caretaker manager of Barnstaple Town in the Western League. So I know that lonely spot on the touch line very well.
Now I enjoy watching both my sons play football who I am proud to say have both played at Western League level. The one attribute god gave me was having a big mouth (see image above!) which came in very handy on the touch line. So now I will continue to voice my opinion… but via the written word.
My Favorite players…
Bobby Charlton …Had the most amazing shot and a Gentleman
Brian Robson… A true leader who led by example
George Best… The first great superstar
Pele… The definition of Brazilian flair
